Pole dancing is for entertainment, it is not a way of life. This past weekend I attended a high school homecoming, and I was shocked by the dress and demeanor of the students, especially the girls. Some were dressed like prostitutes and others behaved like pole dancers. I wondered whether or not their parents’ saw them leave home, and if someone has discussed sexuality and self-respect with them?
I am all for freedom of expression, however, as a teenager there needs to be limits. Sexy is a state of mind, one which can be achieved without compromising your integrity. Has anyone educated these young girls? Who told them that it is acceptable to wear a dress so short that one’s imagination is no longer relevant? We see more than enough. Mothers and fathers where are you?
Whatever happened to the days of anticipation, where we found pleasure in building excitement that would someday culminate in pleasure? I emphasize someday (a day much later than today if you are in high school). It has given way to immediate gratification. We want everything today (if not sooner). I would be willing to bet that the minds’ of these teenagers are not as developed as their bodies. This is a dangerous combination. Parents must provide the guidance needed for successful transition into young adulthood. Teach your children how to behave; show them by your actions and interactions.
The pole is a state of mind too. You don’t have to dance at the local boob bar to be “on the pole”. Lack of self-respect and self-control can manifest as pole like behavior, much like the untamed behavior that I witnessed this weekend. Keep in mind, I am not hating on dancers. I can appreciate a beautiful body set to music for the purpose of entertainment. However, there is a time and a place, and it is not at a high school dance. Our young girls should not aspire to be pole dancers. Aspire to be beautiful, loving, educated, successful. Pole dancing can and should wait until you find a loving relationship and a man who has earned the right to sit and watch. Stop giving yourself away so freely. I have three girls; my goal is to keep them off the pole: mind, body, and soul.
